The US Guide to the 2022 FIFA World Cup – Tunisia

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicking off in 17 days, it’s time to explore the last Group D contender, Tunisia.

Every day until November 20th, we’ll explore a different team represented in this year’s tournament, from Group A to Group H, including predictions about where they’ll end up.

Earlier today, we looked at the Dynamite Danish of Denmark. We’ll now look at one of the group’s biggest underdogs – The Eagles of Carthage, aka Tunisia.

Tunisia

Group D

Nickname: Eagles of Carthage

Colors: Red, white

Location:

Coach: Jalel Kadri (Tunisia)

Top Players:

Despite having a few players in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga, Tunisia does not have much name recognition. Wahbi Khazri of Montpellier has the most international goals for the Tunisians while captain Youssef Msakni has the most appearances.

Team History:

Qatar will mark the sixth World Cup appearance for the Tunisians who have never made it out of the group stages. Tunisia made it to the 2021 AFCON quarterfinals before being beaten 1-0 by Burkina Faso. Tunisia most recently lost 5-1 to Brazil but has beaten Japan and Chile in 2022 as well.

Tournament Prediction: Group stage exit.

It’s difficult to see Tunisia making it out of Group D with more than three points. Tunisia has a real shot at beating the Socceroos of Australia, but Denmark and France will simply be too much for the Eagles of Carthage. Tunisia opens against Denmark on November 22.
