The US Guide to the 2022 FIFA World Cup – Wales

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicking off in 25 days, it’s time to explore the USMNT’s final Group B competitor- Gareth Bales and the rest of Wales.

Every day until November 20th, we’ll explore a different team represented in this year’s tournament, from Group A to Group H, including predictions about where they’ll end up.

Yesterday, we looked at the probable Group B runners-up, the USMNT. Today we’ll look at the USA’s first challengers, The Dragons of Wales.

Wales

Group B

Nickname: The Dragons

Colors: Red, white, and green

Location:

Coach: Rob Page (Wales)

Top Players:

Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur legend Gareth Wales is the headliner, even if he is currently with LAFC. Forward Daniel James was once a Manchester United wunderkind and is rekindling his legend in the Premier League with Fulham. Nottingham’s Neco Williams is solid in the defense, but most of Wales’s players are in the EFL Championship, a league the US’s Josh Sargent is currently dominating.

Team History:

Qatar will mark the second FIFA World Cup appearance for the small United Kingdom country. They reached the quarterfinals in 1958 – can they do it again in 2022? Wales have lost 4 of their last 5, with their only non-loss being a draw to Belgium in June.

Tournament Prediction: Group stage exit.

Wales is dangerous, but the USMNT will be too much for The Dragons to overcome on opening night. Combined with a loss to England and a tie with IR Iran, Wales will likely bow out of Group B with 2 points, unless they can upset the US and outwork Iran.
