FC Barcelona stands alone at the top of the LaLiga table, leading rivals Real Madrid on goal differential as El Clásico looms.
Barca will face Italian giants Inter Milan twice in the Champions League and Celta Vigo once in LaLiga before the Spanish derby, which is shaping up to be a classic.
Despite losing Frenkie de Jong, Memphis Depay, Jules Kounde, and Ronald Araújo to injury during the international break, La Blaugrana defeated RCD Mallorca 1-0 on Saturday, making for five straight wins in LaLiga.
Those injuries will make Barca’s two matches against Inter Milan challenging to say the least, even if Robert Lewandowski is in as good of form as any player not named Erling Haaland.
The real concern is the match against reigning European and Spanish champions Real Madrid on October 16.
Los Blancos still haven’t lost a game this season in any competition, but after tying an undermanned Osasuna on Sunday 1-1, Los Reyes find themselves looking up to the Catalonian Kings. Osasuna is outperforming expectations, fighting their way up to sixth in the table. FIFA Player of the Year Karim Benzema looked rusty in his injury return, missing a late penalty for the lead.
Real Madrid has won four of the last five LaLiga El Clásicos, with Barca winning the most recent league meeting 4-0.
Overall, Los Blancos lead La Blaugrana with 100 wins to Barca’s 97, sharing 52 ties between them.
