When Tottenham manager Antonio Conte started struggling South Korean striker Son Heung-min on Saturday’s bench, Sonaldo took it personally.
Fireworks flew from Madrid to Naples, but London probably had the best show of all.
Here are the top goals from Europe’s top five soccer leagues from this past weekend.
5 – Giovanni Simeone – Napoli
Athletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone’s super sub son scored this late winner for Napoli over AC Milan, keeping Naples seated in the highly-contested Serie A throne. The subtle flick is perfectly timed and placed, leaving AC Milan’s keeper with no chance.
4 – Rodrygo – Real Madrid
Rodrygo opened the scoring for Los Blancos in this Sunday’s brawl of a Madrid Derby. Rodrygo and Vini Jr danced on them, and it wouldn’t be the last time. Real Madrid won 2-1, going into the international break without a loss or a draw in any competition.
3 – Jordan Pefok – FC Union Berlin
After getting snubbed by the USMNT friendlies roster (at least he doesn’t have to wear those vanilla jerseys), Pefok helped Union Berlin reach the top of the Bundesliga table, once again, with this opening goal against a woeful Wolfsburg. The angle, the timing, the power… USMNT HC Gregg Berhalter has to put Pefok on.
2 – Kerem Demirbay – Leverkusen
Even though Leverkusen is near the bottom of the Bundesliga table, they are near the top of their Champions League group, defeating Atletico Madrid 2-0 earlier this week. This goal helped Leverkusen secure a point in their 1-1 draw with Werder.
1 – Son Heung-min – Tottenham
Sonaldo is back at it after struggling to find the back of the net over the past month. Antonio Conte brought the Sonsation off the bench in the second half. It only took him 13 minutes to score a hat-trick.
Both of his first two goals deserve the top spot, so let’s throw in his third, just for fun.
