Europe’s big five football leagues have plenty of action to offer this weekend, from a Madrid Derby in LaLiga to a top four Bundesliga battle.
While all the best games in the Premier League are postponed due to police force complications associated with the Queen’s death, the six best teams in Serie A are having a battle royale for the crown.

Bundesliga
Match: Hoffenheim v. SC Freiburg
When and Where: Sunday, 10:30 am PST, ESPN+
Scouting Report: It’s #2 SC Freiburg, hot off a Europa League win over Olympiacos, against #4 Hoffenheim. Both squads have only lost one game so far, and their goal differential is the same. Expect a tense, surprisingly low-scoring Bundesliga tactical battle.
Prediction: 2-1, Hoffenheim
LaLiga
Match: Atlético Madrid v. Real Madrid
When and Where: Sunday, Noon PST, ESPN+
Scouting Report: Madrid Derbies are usually instant classics, though this one could be a lopsided victory for Los Blancos. Sitting in 7th in LaLiga, Atléti stumbles into this derby after a 2-0 beatdown from Leverkusen (the second to last place team in the Bundesliga table) in the Champions League. Real Madrid hasn’t lost a real game since May and doesn’t intend to start with their old rivals. Real could run away with this one – expect Atlético to conjure the dark arts.
Prediction: 3-1, Real Madrid
Ligue 1
Match: Lyon v. PSG
When and Where: Sunday, 11:45 am PST, beIN SPORTS
Scouting Report: Speaking of undefeated teams, PSG hasn’t lost a game since March of 2022, when Real Madrid closed them out of the UCL 3-1. Though Lyon is fifth in the Ligue 1 table, they probably don’t stand a chance, and fans are likely to be treated to some Messi, Mbappe, and Neymar magic, should they even bother showing up.
Prediction: 5-1, PSG
Premier League
Match: Brentford v. Arsenal
When and Where: Sunday, 4:00 am PST, NBC family of networks
Scouting Report: All of the best Premier League games are canceled this week because they don’t have enough police to cover all the rowdies. We’re left with this borderline stinker, running at 4 am on the West Coast. Can Arsenal bounce back from their Manchester United defeat? Probably.
Prediction: 3-1, Arsenal
Serie A
Match: Tie – Roma v. Atalanta AND AC Milan v. Napoli
When and Where: Sunday, 9:00 am, 11:45 am PST, Paramount+
Scouting Report: If you watch any league this weekend, it should be Serie A. The Italian top flight has been top-class entertainment this season, with late goals, red cards, comebacks, and fights worthy of an Italian opera. #5 Roma takes on #2 Atalanta right before #3 AC Milan visits #1 Napoli. And if you’re really down for Serie A, #4 Udinese takes on #6 Inter Milan at 3:30 am PST.
Prediction: 3-2, Atalanta – 3-1, Napoli
