Just one day after the USMNT’s lackluster World Cup kit reveal, the Stars and Stripes are waking up to more unwelcome news.
US midfielder Yunus Musah has suffered a minor groin injury in training with his LaLiga squad Valencia and will miss the USMNT September friendlies against Japan and Saudi Arabia.
The USMNT teenager will stay in Valencia to recover while his club travels to Celta Vigo this weekend to take on fellow US middie Luca de la Torre.
A Valencia spokesperson insists the injury is minor and that Musah should recover soon.
USMNT fans sure hope so. Musah has been on fire in LaLiga this season, cementing himself as a permanent fixture in Valencia’s midfield. His passing, play-making ability, and experience against top talent will be vital to US success in Qatar.
Musah will do everything to recover quickly in time for November – the youngster has been focused on the World Cup for the last two years.
The USMNT has officially announced 21-year-old midfielder Johnny Cardoso to replace Musah next weekend. Cardoso was born in New Jersey but moved to Brazil at only three months old. Cardoso has played middie for Brazilian Serie A side Internacional since 2019 and has three goals in 17 appearances this season, helping his team to second place in the Brazilian table.
The American talent pool runs deep. Do they have enough to make a deep run into the World Cup? Sound off below!
