WATCH: Berhalter Names Pefok, Sargent, and Wright As USMNT Striker Contenders

USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter is narrowing down his list of potential strikers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In a new interview with Extra Time podcast host Andrew Wiebe, Berhalter names the six USMNT strikers competing for seats on the plane to Qatar.

“Jesus [Ferreira], Ricardo [Pepi], Brandon [Vasquez], [Jordan] Pefok, [Josh] Sargent, and [Haji] Wright – that’s the six.”

There will likely be 3-4 strikers finding the back of the net in Qatar, largely based on who’s hot right now.

Jesus Ferreira has been on fire in the MLS lately with FC Dallas. Ricardo Pepi has cooled off this year, failing to find playing time with FC Augsburg before being loaned to FC Groningen, currently ninth in the Eredivisie, just this week. FC Cincinnati’s Brandon Vasquez has been on a tear as of late, even earning unrequited transfer buzz with Leeds United. Jordan Pefok of the Bundesliga’s Union Berlin has been crushing it in Germany, leading his new team to an undefeated record. Josh Sargent has been leading the recently-relegated Norwich City through the Championship this season, scoring four goals in four games. Haji Wright has five goals and four assists in four games for his Turkish Super Lig team Antalyaspor.

The US Guide expects Sargent, Ferreira, Pefok, and (maybe) Wright to be on the plane to Qatar.ย
