The Stars and Stripes will need to work hard in Qatar to help compensate for their new kits’ lack of creativity.
The internet has been abuzz with the alleged leak of the 2022 Qatar World Cup USMNT jerseys, dividing fans into disappointed and super disappointed.
Though nothing has been officially announced (hopefully the USSF can still “Sonic The Hedgehog” this), it does appear the boys will wear a not-so-classic Red, White, and Bland.
Though the tie-dye away blues, warm-up splash kits, and one undeniably cool basketball (?) jersey will make Uncle Sam smile, they cannot quite make up for the unbearable whiteness of being in that home jersey.
Not even reliable Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie wants to earn these stripes.
Christian Pulisic and Co can take solace in the firm fact that they still won’t look as bad as Puma-sponsored contenders Uruguay, Ghana, Switzerland, Senegal, or Morocco.
The leaked kits are eerily similar to Nike’s Tottenham away kits, far from beautiful in blue.
Both kits take the worst jersey trends of the early-2000s and somehow manage to make them worse. These new Nike jerseys just might be the low-rise jeans of US Soccer.
