After spending seven seasons under the tutelage of top club Chelsea, USMNT defender Matt Miazga is finally returning to the MLS.

The Chelsea man, who has spent most of his time with the Blues out on loan to other European leagues, is moving to FC Cincinnati on a free transfer.

Miazga is best known to USMNT fans as that tall guy who made fun of that short guy that one time.

Even though Miazga is celebrated by vertically advantaged people everywhere, the defender has struggled in the European leagues. His fight for playing time in competitive leagues has led to a drop in form that could see him off the USMNT World Cup 2022 roster in Qatar.

An MLS revival could change Miazga’s World Cup chances. 

Miazga’s departure from Chelsea marks one less USMNT player in Europe’s top leagues. Chelsea is reportedly liquidating assets for potential new signings like the highly-sought after Spanish defender Marc Cucurella. Chelsea currently vyes for Cucurella’s services with Barcelona, who has netted almost every player they’ve chased this offseason. There are also rumors about a potential blockbuster trade between Chelsea and Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong and Pierre Aubameyang, despite Barca having given up on pursuing Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta.

Long story short – Miazga back to the MLS is probably what’s best for everyone.
