There’s trouble brewing among the Red Devils as the Premier League season looms around the corner.
Portuguese superstar Ronaldo, known by many fans as the greatest to ever kick it, has sought a new jersey since Manchester United failed to qualify for the upcoming Champions League season.
Though Man U performed promisingly in the pre-season with new HC Ten Hag (formerly of Ajax), sources indicate that the 37-year-old striker still wants out – he knows his seasons are numbered and wants them all spent in the Champions League.
Things appeared to reach a breaking point on Sunday when Ronaldo left Man U’s stadium before their friendly against La Liga side Rayo Vallecano was over. Ronnie had been subbed out at halftime.
Ronaldo’s team refused to say whether the early exit was approved or not, which is hardly a good sign. The star left the match at the same time as fellow Portuguese international Diogo Dalot, who had played against Atletico Madrid the day before.
At the time, no comment was made by any party on the players’ exits, leading to loads of juicy speculation.
Sunday’s match was the first time Ronaldo had joined his side during the pre-season, missing most of the tour for team-approved family reasons. Despite being famously fit, Ten Hag has insisted that Ronaldo is not yet in game shape and that the goal scorer needs “a lot” of training.
Ten Hag finally broke his silence on Ronaldo’s early exit today, indirectly addressing the superstar’s behavior.
“It is unacceptable for everyone. I am telling them it’s unacceptable. We are a team. A squad. Until the end we stay together.”
CR7 has yet to respond.
The Champions League goal-scoring record holder has so far been unlucky in his search for a new squad, with big names like Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, and Bayern Munich all backing out of the race.
Manchester United opens the season at home against Brighton on Sunday. Ronaldo will reportedly be on the bench.
