Barcelona Wunderkind Riqui Puig Heading to LA Galaxy on Free Transfer

The MLS is adding another La Liga star, following in the footsteps of Gareth Bale, to its roster.

Riqui Puig, described as a potential Messi successor in 2018, is heading to the LA Galaxy on a three-year deal after seasons of struggling to find a stable place in Barcelona’s constantly shifting landscape of triangle passes.

There has been debate over whether the youngster is more talent than hype, with many Barcelona fans insisting Puig is the real deal.

Former Barcelona teammate Victor Vasquez reportedly sold Puig on Los Angeles, which is more similar to Barcelona as a city than it is as a club.

Though the transfer is free, Barcelona is expected to have the option to buy back Puig or take a percentage of any future sales.

It is unclear when Puig will be available to play for his new side.

Barcelona will open the season at home against Rayo Vallecano on August 13.

UPDATE 8/4

Barcelona and LA have officially reached a deal for Puig, as reported by ESPN.
