American Defender Sergiño Dest Soon Moving to Top European Club

American sensation Sergiño Dest might soon team up with another USMNT star.

Dest’s exclusion from the Supercopa Edition El Clasico on Wednesday is perhaps proof that Barcelona’s prodigal son Xavi is moving on from the American defender.

Dest’s departure is not for lack of skill or desire on his part. The former Ajax man has said he wants to stay in Barcelona, but then again, who wouldn’t?

Dest has been bright for a Barca squad deep in the pits of 2021. Xavi’s plan involves bringing veteran support for defense while clearing up funding for more strikers. Xavi reportedly favors the 38-year old Dani Alves over the 21-year Dest for right back.

The move will likely prove fortuitous for the young defender. European powerhouses Bayern Munich and Chelsea are reportedly chasing the USMNT star, and both squads are much better positioned than Barca over the next three seasons.

Bayern attempted to sign Dest in 2020, but the defender chose the Catalan giants over a move to Germany. However, Bayern’s management is proving as persistent as their play. The Bundesliga leaders have kept tabs on Dest ever since.

There’s even more buzz surrounding the reigning European champions Chelsea. Tuchel is reportedly desperate for a right-back with Reece James out, and Dest is the man most suited for the job. If the transfer happens, Dest could team up with Pulisic in the Champions League soon.

While Barcelona re-builds, it appears Dest may have the opportunity to win a major title.

It’s unclear if Dest will stay at Camp Nou till the summer window or be packing his bags by February 1.
