USMNT attacking midfielder Weston McKennie is making up for a missed header against Napoli last Thursday on one of Italy’s biggest stages.
The Supercoppa Italiana, which is great with parmesan, is the annual competition between the winners of two other competitions – Serie A and Coppa Italia.
Juventus has won the competition every year since 2012. But in 2022, the streak has ended.
That’s not for a lack of effort on McKennie’s part. With star forward Chiesa out with an ACL tear, attacking fell heavily on the American midfielder’s shoulders. In the 25th minute, McKennie delivered on expectations.

McKennie was the lone bright spot for Juve’s offense, which has struggled in the absence of Ronaldo. Inter Milan struck back just 10 minutes later on a penalty from Argentinian sensation Lautaro Martínez.
The match came down to the final seconds of overtime when Inter Milan striker Alexis Sánchez found the back of the net in the 121st minute.
McKennie will look to continue his recent good form for the men’s national team in the the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against El Salvador, Canada, and Honduras.
